The Rehabilitation Services Department at Emory Johns Creek Hospital is a full-service outpatient provider for Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy.

Physical Therapists work with patients, their families, and caregivers to evaluate and treat any illness or injury that may compromise strength and mobility. A personalized plan of care is designed for each patient’s specific needs and goals. The ultimate goal is to maximize the level of functional independence and quality of life.
Our outpatient clinic is fully equipped to treat all major diagnoses:
- Neurological conditions including stokes
- Post-surgical joint replacements, arthroscopy, ligament and tendon repairs
- Muscle strains and joint sprains
- Osteoarthritis
- Wound and burn management
- Exercise for strengthening and stabilization
- Postural education and body mechanics
- Soft tissue mobilization and joint mobilization
- Ultrasound, phonophoresis and iontophoresis
- Cervical and lumbar traction
- Electrical stimulation and neuromuscular re-education
- Whirlpool and pulse lavage
Speech Therapists work with patients, their families, andtheir caregivers to assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, fluency and other-related disorders.
Our treatment may include the following:
- Swallowing Therapy - Including assessments with digital fluoroscopic modified barium swallow studies, therapeutic dysphagia intervention, making decisions regarding appropriate diet textures, compensatory techniques, and education to patients, families, and caregivers regardingsafe-swallowing strategies
- Language Therapy - Assist individuals with comprehension and expression in oral, written, and graphic modalities
- Speech/Voice Production Therapy - Assist individuals with learning correct production of speech sounds, developing proper control of vocal and respiratory systems for correct voice production, and improving fluency
- Cognitive-Communication Therapy - Assist individuals with attention, memory, verbal problem solving, abstract reasoning, and other executive functioning skills
Occupational Therapists work with patients, their families, and caregivers through the evaluation and treatment of physical, perceptual, cognitive, and self-care challenges affecting the patients’ independence in normal functions. Occupational therapy is based on the definition of occupation as an activity one does that occupies time and is meaningful and important to the individual. Furthermore, engaging in these occupations helps to restore and maintain health and well-being. Our ultimate goal is to assist patients in returning to their prior level of functioning. Our treatment may involve the following:
- Education on joint protection and body mechanics
- Energy conservation
- Cognitive training
- Neuromuscular re-education
- Sensory and visual perception training
- Transfer training and functional mobility
- Home safety education/modifications
- Hand therapy, Splinting
- Range of motion and strengthening
- Adaptive equipment (dressing aids, toileting aids, durable medical equipment training and recommendations)
- Modalities (electrical stimulation, ultrasound, fluidotherapy, paraffin iontophoresis)
