The Birth Place at Emory Johns Creek Hospital

Birth Place at Emory Johns Creek Hospital has been designed with the needs of the entire family in mind. Our roomy suites are furnished with sleeping/lounging areas for spouse or coach, wireless internet and flat screen televisions.

Tours

Tours of The Birth Center at Emory Johns Creek Hospital are offered every Thursday evening at 6:00pm and every Saturday at 10:00am. If you would like a tour, please come to the main lobby of the hospital at one of the specified times and you will be greeted by a tour guide. Preregistration is not required.

On the date of your tour, meet us in the main lobby at the entrance of the hospital.

Classes

Emory Johns Creek Hospital offers a wide variety of classes to accommodate your lifestyle. Classes include childbirth education and infant CPR. Class sizes are limited to ensure personal attention. Our long term inpatient ante-natal patients can have classes tailored to their needs, as well. Many insurance companies now offer reimbursement for childbirth education. For more information and to register, please call 678.474.8200.

Childbirth Preparation Classes

We offer a four week course or an all-in-one weekend course. The classes consist of lecture, discussion and sharing time, and active class participation, and covers breathing, relaxation and comfort measures for labor. Topics include:

  • Discomforts of late pregnancy
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Stages of labor
  • Pain management - breathing and relaxation
  • How to prepare for labor
  • Medications
  • Possible complications
  • Cesarean sections
  • Post partum and newborn care
  • Infant feeding, basic breastfeeding

Visiting Hours

There are no set visiting hours at Emory Johns Creek Hospital. It is our policy to be flexible and accessible for family to visit our guests anytime. We ask children who are visiting be free of any illness, including fever, runny noses, coughs, etc. and always accompanied by an adult. The Birth Place is a secured unit. Visitors may request entry at the doors next to the elevators or visit the nurses station.

Preparing for Your Hospital Stay

It is a good idea to pack for your trip to the hospital one month before your due date. If you have other children, arrange for their care while you are away. What to bring:

  • Insurance card
  • Social Security information
  • Robe and slippers
  • Chapstick
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Warm socks
  • Contact lens case and solution
  • Eyeglasses
  • Hair clasp for long hair
  • Camera/video recorder (with extra batteries!)
  • Pillows
  • Makeup, hair dryer
  • 4-6 pair of underwear
  • 2-3 nightgowns
  • 2-3 bras
  • Shampoo, shower gel
  • List of phone numbers for people you’ll want to call
  • Deodorant
  • Clothes to wear home for you and baby
  • Blankets for the baby
  • Car seat

Newborn Portraits are now available at Emory Johns Creek Hospital by Professional and Award winning photographer, Mary Buck of Lightscapes Photographic Artwork.  Sessions are held on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday mornings in our own private studio in The Birth Center.
